>>Everything you say about restaurants is correct. It's just that Allie's interests come foremost. Surely you can relate to that.

>>His day will come. If the Repubs leave the IRS with a pulse I am sure it will indeed jump up as a red flag. (They have already fiscally eviscerated the EPA). I am not always the master of restraint but think that's the way to go here. Know what I mean?

>Yep, I know exactly what you mean. You are a freaking Hypocrite, you are doing EXACTLY what you bad mouth the owner and repubs
>for, watching out for yourself and yours. Screw the law, screw the rest of us. You need to wake up and quit bitchin about everyone else and take a good look at the man in the Mirror. What you are teaching your daughter is to blame someone else for problems of your own making.

Jeff, I look in the mirror with a harsh eye plenty. Maybe too much. I don't blame others for problems of my own making. Not sure how that applies in this case, though. All I did was vent at what I believe was a restaurant owner costing my daughter over $300 by filing a misleading, if not fraudulent, tax form. (Note that I did not seek advice, although as usual there are those who can't wait to "advise" me).

Extending the rant to Republicans was a mistake on my part. That was not warranted.

But I am still steamed at this guy for taking advantage of someone who was not in a reasonable position to know better. Kevin leaves the impression in one of his replies that he knew all about the intricacies of payroll taxes and withholding before he even entered the work force. If that is the case then I salute him, because I don't think many young workers are going to recognize the difference between a W-2 and a W-9 and the tax implications thereof. It's more like on your first day at work you are given a form and told here, fill this out and sign it. My expectation, which I believe is reasonable, is that the form would be a W-2, not a W-9 which treats the employee as a nonemployee / entrepreneur. An employee is exactly what she was -- a waitress in his restaurant. It's the only place she worked. So I don't apologize for being irritated about it.

I am not going to become embroiled in this on an extended basis. This reply to you is in response to what I think is an unfair characterization. Have a good day.
