>That surprises me - again, I've seen various 3rd-party sites that basically just repackage mailing list archives and give them a nice interface. Are you saying those sites are violating mailing list T&Cs? Can you give an example? In the FOSS world it's usually encouraged to spread information as far and wide as possible, with a caveat that an "authoritative" list is stored in just one known location.

Massive manipulating of proprietary content is not allowed on the Internet unless exists some agreement between two or more parties. We see that on several .NET sites where only the domain changes and some colors but it is actually the same database. They use that to try to get more hits, sell more advertisements and so on. But, in general, this would not be allowed as someone or entity who worked hard to build a database, such as our which is close to two millions messages now, wouldn't like to see all of their efforts be stolen and store on another site.

>Well, you already have e-mail notifications. I don't see any technical limitations that would prevent you from e-mailing a reply from a UT member back to a mailing list member. That's more of a policy decision.

What we have in regards to that is the ability for a member to configure his account to receive his replies or private messages by email. This helps for the notifications. There are also other email options where someone can redirect a message into his email inbox for specific reason or email an interesting message to a co-worker.

Actually, we would have been interested into that in one of the first FoxPro mailing list that ever existed but it was not possible due to such policy. And, it is normal. As I said, there is nothing wrong to subscribe to something, or sending in reference a few items to co workers and so on. But, manipulating non proprietary content massively is something that should be prohibited. But, even if that would be possible, the other issue is the fact that all of our messages and content is signed. And, this is something unique and good we have on this site and it helps to eliminate garbages in favor or gathering and focusing into professional content. Most of whatever is free out there content a lot of spam and related content.
