OK, you mentioned 2 different topics here. I think Barbara answered the 2nd question. Based on your 2nd question, it looks like you need to create a separate backup set every day. Don't see much reason for this, but so be it.
I would recommend a utility like DynaZip to create a zip file of all your data files. You can create a zip file each day with a filname based on that day's date. You could then place the zip file in a AppBackup sub-directory. DZ also supports long file names and is a breeze to use with VFP. After you run DZ (and use the DZ testing function to verify the integrity of the zip file), you could then use Barbara's suggestion on zapping the files.
