No, they sure aren't. Well, it's there, but it's encrypted to the max and that part of the data is segregated behind walls behind walls. I had a job in the credit card industry a couple of years ago.and can assure you violations of privacy rights are subject to serious fines, like in the tens of thousands of dollars per infraction. Like you're out of business and bankrupt if they decide to nail you. The third rail is revealing the cardholder's name, card number, and CVV in a single document. We went through a review to get the compliance blessing and the physical requirements alone were enough to make your eyes cross. Private financial info has to be kept on a separate server, which is not only encrypted but in a physically secure area. Only a handful of people in the company could even get in the room. The ceilings were probably about like those in a bank vault. It cost the company a lot of money. You can't be in that business any more without doing that.

Yes, clever hackers manage to break through. It's just getting harder. I am surprised Sony was so dumb.
