Actually Mike's response was slanted by his political beliefs. Birthers are not necessarily folks who believe Obama was not born in the U.S. (although some are), but rather mostly folks who want to see documentation to prove that he is a natural born citizen due to the requirements in the U.S. Constitution.

It is believed by most historians (and letters from that time period) that the framers of the constitution included that requirement to ensure that any President of the U.S. would put the interests of this country first and foremost in their mind (and act accordingly) and not the interests of a foreign country.
