http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2011/05/10/text-of-obamas-speech-on-immigration/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitterHe might break some bones on this one. There are way to many businesses who depend on illegal immigrants
staying illegal and they will do anything to keep things way they are. Perhaps Obama will manage to (re)capture hearts and minds of many good people who wants things improved, and will again skillfully present himself as agent of that change (hence previous ellections), but I doubt meaningfull change will ever happen. (eg.Medical reform, Expansion of war etc)
Perhaps there will be more Mexicans in Iraq/Afganistan, and some niche professions will be more easily imported, but something tells me that those guys working on fields and farms will stay illegal forever.
If every farm worker in US became legal and paid accordingly (hence chicken wings at KFC costing 10$, or cheeseburger at MC Donalds costing 4-5$ or god forbid spare ribs prices skyrocket !? {g}), you would be having social upheaval in no time.
