Update : Wrong answer
Rick,
RightClick on the application
- the application itself from the windows explorer
- a shortcut to the application in the windows explorer
- app in the start menu for recently used applications
Choices:
- pin to taskbar
- pin to start menu (it will then appear permanently in the upper half of the start menu)
See image attached

>In Windows 7 if you open the start menu the main tab holds a bunch of recently used applications. What goes on there seems very spotty, so it's not automatic obviously - somehow the application running has to notify windows to display it self on that list.

>FWIW, it's not Recently Used Documents that I'm after. That's easily accomplished with SHAddToRecentDocs. It's the recent application list which in turn also shows the recent documents (which is really cool).
