>>SAP was the front-runner last year with $2.41 billion in business intelligence software sales, gaining 0.6% in market share over 2009, to claim 22.9%.

Most of us would be delighted with 2.41 billion in sales, but to put it in perspective, Android has been predicted to earn 5 bill in 2011 and Google's Schmidt is predicting 10 billion annual Android revenues. If this is the case, then BI may burn brightly in some eyes but it's not in the same league as mobile and has financial and business drivers that are completely different. Besides, if Google meets its goals in smartphone, how long will it be before they emulate MS in rolling other vendors' clever ideas more conveniently into their own offerings? Google Office is just the start, watch the screaming when vendors are effectively treated as free design teams for Google, just as MS did when it owned the OS.

The other significant issue is revenue for developers. BI can earn megabucks for the anointed few whereas Android has had a reputation of disappointing revenues for developers- e.g. http://www.insidemobileapps.com/2011/05/04/android-revenue-one-eighth-one-tenth-ios-glu-mobile/ but Paypal now is wading into that field which may shake things up for all players and Google has come up with something as well: http://gigaom.com/mobile/in-app-billing-can-boost-android-revenues-more-than-you-think/ . In line with Android's astonishing sales growth, look at this: http://techcrunch.com/2010/10/19/millennial-media-android-revenue-exceeds-iphone-ad-sales-ipad-up-316-percent-in-q3/ ... turns out that people can earn quite good coin with advertizing content in their free offerings. With over 100 million Android devices already out there, you only need 10c from 10% of the audience every few months to be very happy.

IMHO the overwhelming impression about Android is movement and progress. They behave like a small player without the disadvantages. You have to be impressed- but Google still is a corporate and we can't act surprised when they start to act like one.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
