I think you missed the "R2" in her message. Even so, I do not think it can be done 2008->2005 via backup/restore without going the script route (see link below). If you have successfully done this via backup and restore, PLEASE post the instructions because I could use them too! I would much prefer to backup/restore to accomplish it but have never been able to.
