None of the built-in Windows accounts support network access. You have to use an explicit user account for your application pool that has rights to the network. In addition though there are some issues with .NET apps (prior to 4.0 especially) accessing network file resources. In addition to setting the account you may also have to muck with CAS security policy and set the server to full trust access.
