If its a serious question then its because of the vastness of the area to listen to (the entire sky), the distances involved over which the signals need to travel (and they will fade), and the range of frequency to listen to. SETI have tried for so long but what they managed to actually listen to is miniscule compared to what is out there that could be listened to. Needle in a haystack.
