I think the reasoning that we can pick up their radio waves is flawed in some way too. Those big dishes are big wastes of money imho. The aliens probably use a much more efficient way of communicating than we know. Kind of like we moved on to using the internet instead of radio/tv broadcasts fairly recently - duh!
Also flawed is the assumption that since we humans find it impossible to get out there (out of our solar system) it must also be impossible for aliens to do the same. Well, if they had a million years head start I'd say they have a good chance of doing it!!
