To deflect questions about something as mundane as buying a house seems illustrative of her obsessive image management. Of course all politicians manage their images, including President Obama, but she seems to take it to an almost paranoid level. She only speaks at appearances where she can expect adulation. My theory is she is deeply insecure about being on the national stage. There is nothing in her past to suggest world leader potential, unless you count being a star of her high school basketball team. She was briefly governor of an insignificant state (politically) and then the VP candidate on a losing ticket. That's her resume. She has already reached the limits of where a red meat agenda, designer glasses, a great smile, and great ta-tas can take her. (If that sounds sexist, tell me it's not true).

>>>Two separate houses. Bristol bought her modest house first. The new purchase which Sarah and Todd are being coy about is 8000 square feet.

>>Who really gives a flying flip if she's being coy about it? With the elevated amount of scrutiny the media gives her, I don't blame her.

>So she is media shy. Now I understand. This poor woman just wants her privacy. She goes on Fox News and lucrative speaking tours again and again trying to explain this and dummies like me still don't get it.

No, she's not shy, but the media witch hunt was, and still is, ridiculous. Kudos to her for playing the media like a fiddle now. Not releasing the schedule of her road tour was genius and it exposed the media to being the whiny scumbags that they are.
Very fitting: http://xkcd.com/386/
