There's actually a big tizzy on the interwebz about this now. Apparently MS lended a little too much attention to HTML5 and jQuery in a recent preview, and didn't give Silverlight enough attention. The sky is now apparently falling for Silverlight developers.

If I were you, I'd go the ASP.NET MVC/jQuery/CSS/HTML5 approach now as they are probably the safest, and keep your eyes on the Silverlight scenario.
