But, despite the fact that my install is setup to be on a 32 bits PC, this does not affect that the System DNS defined on the PC will generate this error when the OS is 64 bits.

You need to create 32 bit DSN (using 32 bit odbccad application). There are instructions in one of the messages here.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
