How can a company like GM put so much time and money into Pontiac or Hummer or Saturn? Or Ford put time and money into Mercury? Companies do this stuff all the time.

In the case of Microsoft, people don't understand that it's not like a shark. Microsoft is a school of piranhas. Different divisions are doing their thing and devouring what's in their path, often it's tech from other divisions.

As for Silverlight, the industry moved past it. If Microsoft didn't embrace HTML5, people would be screaming about that decision. The reality is, computers are not like accounting. Things change, and quickly.

>Perhaps you can shed a little light on this for me, how can a company like Microsoft spend so much time and resources on something like Silverlight and then not continue with it.... I believe its only been out for a handful of years.
