You never were, and I never expect anyone to be. I just think there's a difference between conservatism and nastiness.

You are probably too young to remember Doug Dodge. He was on the old FoxForum on Compuserve and was very conservative. We had a respectful conversation for years without probably ever agreeing on a thing. We met in person and got along great. I really believe the political climate has become much darker.

I believe the longest thread ever on the Foxforum (other than maybe "Lisa Has a Dirty Mind") was "Jonathan My Son is Gone." Doug's son Jonathan was killed by a reckless driver, bringing in the mail. He was not that much older than your son. The messages poured in literally by the hundreds. Email was still a relatively new thing and it was amazing. I called Doug who knows many how many times, as others did as well. At least once a week and much more often than that early on. He told me he spent endless days sitting in his bathroom crying. Jim Booth, who called Doug even more often than I did, was probably the record holder.

We should all stop bickering. This should be the community it used to be.
