You probably know about this, but it was so mishandled that they did not even respect the sequential order of the episodes when they were aired, making it very confusing (I did not watch them at the time, I watched from netflix as soon as they became available thanks to Serenity, which I bought the DVD just because it was Sci Fi and it was cheap, and I loved the movie) but I read it in an interview with the author.
