I'll double it and make it 4 cents <g>

I've been reading the threads over on msdn and rolling my eyes.

HTML5 will be a definite growth area over the next few years, but the desktop is far from dead.

John

>I see the news about the backlash from what was said -- or not said -- from Microsoft, and how developers are freaking out... and I wonder what the average age is for those who are miffed or freakin'???
>
>Dot_Net cannot be dead. And the desktop is not dead. Consumer momentum and all hype aside, think about it...
>
>All the mobile-this, HTML5-that, iPad and tablet-other things... business is not going to dump the desktop. The desktop is where core/centralized business is managed.
>
>Yes... you can get some things done on your smart phone or other mobile device. And being mobile is great in certain business environments. Knowledge workers of all flavors and even System Administrators can make great use of mobile technology... when they are on the run... away from their desktops. But for God's sake, no one is going to sit down and do 8 hours of work on an iPhone... just because they can get some kind of functionality from it.
>
>Imagine you -- a developer -- writing your app, writing code... testing... debugging, etc... all day long... on your iPad or on a Windows Phone 7. Really?
>
>Imagine graphic designers creating those images and laying out pages with an iPhone. Really?
>
>What about the typical office workers who crunch spreadsheets, process HR details, handle Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, etc? Are they going to function without a desktop?
>
>When Windows 8 hits the shelves, are business managers all over the world going to see the light and dispose of their desktops? Are they going to switch all their computing over to mobile phones and tablets because we can slide panels left and right, up and down, and we can zoom a photo with our thumb and forefinger?
>
>No you say! It's not just smart phones and tablet devices! Large...desk sized surface screens will be the desktop. Oh really? Will business managers go on a wholesale dumping spree and scrap the idea of new $500-$1,000 Dell PC and instead opt for $12,000 touch-screen surface devices for all office workers?
>
>For sure, change will happen. For sure, more and more momentum will build in the mobile-oriented market place. But none of it will happen overnight. By the very nature of it... at least for now... being mobile means limited productivity. Except in small, narrow circumstances. It may take a decade, or more to change that.

>Dot_net programming is not dead! But other things are alive and growing. Be smart.

>Just my 2 cents.
