Hmmm, the last check I've seen signed if about 20 years ago. My mother user to have them about 30 years ago. Before the age of debt cards, their were used extensively for traveller checks, but nowadays about everything goes electronically by internet banking, debtcard or credit card.

there are still a few places where you cannot use any of those, like bars and some small shops. When I know I need to go there, I'll make sure I've got cash. If in a situation where I don't have cash, there always is a cash dispenser in the neighborhood.
