I went back and re-read your message and I really did take that out of context, unintentionally. Sorry. At any rate, I see he's got the performance under control but VFP isn't always faster in these situations. If he were using SPT or a remote view where the entire query was actually performed on the server, SQL Server or Oracle may be faster. (Probably not given how it's performing now though.)
