>>Or we could buy advanced weapons from China after we give them the west coast to pay down some of our debt.

I thought the Navy projected power abroad, meaning that this sort of weapon isn't to defend you or your assets, it's to project foreign policy generally. For whom? Mostly for "Team America" meaning the corporate manufacturers/licensors and free marketeers. Now that they've outsourced blue collar jobs to your primary competitor it's a lot harder to imply wider national benefit. So why not allow the free market to prevail, allowing free marketeers to fund as many superweapons as they think are needed to keep the souks and markets humming wherever it matters? The saved taxpayer $ can be used to prop up Medicare for another year or two of partisan political point-scoring.

"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
