>>Yeah his argument is that those are legal. Funny because the entire point of my original post was that the fact weed being illegal creates more problems than it solves and this panel wrote a 24 page report on it. I still don't know if he read it cause no comment on the contents of the report.

>I have lived this personally. My oldest son was hooked on MJ from about 13 yo on. He's 35 today and has never held a serious job, most jobs last about 1-3 weeks until he can't do it anymore becuase of the stress of working. Yet he smokes pot constantly and tells me that it has no effect on him. He can't think, can't function, can't hold a job but the MJ has no effect.

>He and a friend, while living with me ran out of weed. they asked me if I knew anyone that could get them some. I don't and told them so. They said they'd go to Walmart and find someone. Within about an hour they were back home having located someone to provide them MJ. My question to them is that if MJ has no effect on a person, how'd you pick out the one that could sell it to you? Of course, I got a blank stare and no response.

>So preach on about the non effect of smoking. I can spot a pot-smoker from just the way he talks and acts. I work with several people who wondered how I know they smoke. Its so easy to spot them if they are heavy users like my son, who smokes about every 60-90 mins all day long, not recreational once a month types.

John, you're making a point I don't contest and missing my point entirely.

I never said mj had no effect on the smoker.

The point is that making pot illegal has failed. It's still readily available to anyone who wants it by your own admission. Furthermore the criminilization of possession only serves to cost tax payers billions of dollars. I'm tired of paying to prosecute and jail mj offenders. It doesn't accomplish a damn thing except wasting tax dollars!

I feel for you that your son is an addict. By your reason it would be okay if he were an alcoholic instead because alcohol is legal. The legality of alcohol vs illegality of mj is hypocrisy at its finest.

By the way I agree completely: Most potheads are less than motivated to say the least and I certainly wouldn't hire one. But at least potheads aren't violent like so many alcoholics! I'd rather live next to a stoner than an alcoholic any day!

Just for fun go over to grooveshark and listen to a song called "Irony Of It All" by "The Streets"

In summary. Pot can be bad. So can alcohol. Making pot illegal barely impacts it's availability and costs tax payers billions. We are supposed to be a country where we are free to do what we want so long as it doesn't hurt anyone else. If a pothead wants to spend their life smoking pot and in doing so does no harm to anyone, who are we to make that illegal? Nanny state anyone?
