In addition to what Al and Kevin already said, there is an important distinction between what you can do and what Microsoft wants you to do. You CAN still use WinForms but that sure isn't where MS is steering developers. Even in my limited exposure to MS events recently it is clear that they are pushing HTML5 hard.
