Knowing now that it was one of us, I would like to know. It will certainly influence my interaction (or non-interaction) with this individual.

Oho! Were you a "Twin Peaks" fan? It kind of went off the rails toward the end but for a couple of seasons it was one of the most compelling shows ever on American television. Seriously strange. (The log lady. The owls are not what they seem).

David Lynch is mainly known for his quirky work but one I especially liked was a relatively traditional one called "The Straight Story." The always charming Richard Farnsworth played the protagonist, Alvin Straight, an old man who sets out on a tractor from Iowa to visit his estranged brother in Wisconsin. (Lynch lived in Madison for years). My favorite scene is when Alvin encounters a teenage girl who has run away from home because she is pregnant and too ashamed to tell her family. Alvin picks up a stick and breaks it in two. "Easy, right?" he says. Then he picks up a bundle of sticks and shows her that he can't break them together. "That's family," he says.

A few weeks ago the girlfriend and I watched "Mulholland Drive," which is one of his quirky ones. For days afterward we speculated about what it meant and even what really happened. There are some theories on the net but none that make an open and shut case. I think it was intended to remain mysterious.

Give me David Lynch over the typical fare from the likes of Michael Bay where Things Get Blowed Up Real Good any day.
