My thinking is that it would have been better for Microsoft to have announced the Win8 user/UI story at the same time as the developer story. I think that even if the developer story ends up being good at Build, many are questioning the decision of making loyal developers wait and wonder, and the public discussion and articles that result in that ambiguity. It's a kind of fear of the unknown, and that cliche "The idle brain is the devil's playground." I do feel bad for the Microsoft marketing/evangelist/community folks who have to deal with the backlash in anticipation of the Build conference.
