Just sounds like the "Hardware Consultant" and I use that term loosely, should investigate the reason why the controller isn't performing correctly, as such a statement on his part only confirms he doesn't know what he is talking about, you can quote me directly.
Why didn't he add one more drive and go to RAID10, this over comes the need for the controller to calculate the offsets and greatly increases performance.
