>I haven't even read the replies to your thread yet. Judging from the names in the thread tree I could probably write them myself. Please take some good advice from a fellow liberal that there is no point in going out of your way to provoke our distinguished conservative colleagues. You aren't going to convince them. It's just wasted time and bandwidth.

>Personally I enjoy your posts. They are thoughtful and impassioned, which is always to the good. Don't expect to change anyone's political thinking here, that's all. That's probably true of American society as a whole IMO. We are really polarized and dug in.

>PS -- From one liberal to another, I was delighted to hear Bachmann has officially tossed her machete into the ring. The more loonies on their side, the better for our side ;-) I'm just hoping Newt Gingrich, the 300 pound Peter Pan, stays in as long as possible.

To be honest, I don't like either party. I'm a fiscal conservative and believe in small limited government. But I'm also liberal minded in that I believe gay marriage should be legal, marijuana should be decriminalized, etc.. I think we should get our military out of other countries - we have no business policing the world. To further confuse things I'm an environmentalist and think offshore drilling should be permanently banned. The environment should be protected - even at the cost of the economy if necessary.

I just can't stand these paper republicans. Republicans run on a platform of small government and fiscal conservatism, then they get in the white house and increase the size of the government, increase the national debt, and take civil liberties. At least democrats are honest that they like big government and social programs and then follow through with it.

All in all, both parties are owned by special interests and neither party represents the will of the people. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. FIRE THEM ALL!
