>>>It must be really nice on your little white pedestal. I can point to a huge number of gaffes you've made on this site and you continue to do so and will do so in the future. She took 23 troubled young women teens into her home over the years and helped them become productive and educated. To me, that says volumes about her integrity and character as well as her as a person. What have you done to help humanity other than sling arrows at others becuase they can and have done what you only dream to do.....

>>Actually a fair amount, but I was commenting on her, not myself. So I will not respond in any detail to your false assertion that I have only dreamed of doing things.

>I didn't ask you what you've done for yourself or your family, but what you've done for humanity. I know of a trip after Katrina, but what else?

Youth soccer coach and referee for many years

Spent countless time with kids on those teams who were dealing with iffy home situations

Volunteer basketball coach. (About that I really do know something).

School tutor

Blood donor

Helped in numerous ways at my daughters' school when they were young (non-obligatory)

Volunteer at a Salvation Army soup kitchen in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago. Think poor, homeless, hungry. Eventually I was what they call a team coordinator, which was not a position I sought. In fact I have never gone after any of the bullet points on my resume, including FoxPro MVP and president of the Chicago FUDG user group. People seem to ask me to step up and I always say yes.

Participated in many community events on behalf of Chicago Cares, a large volunteer organization -- helping clean up litter, painting schoolrooms, that kind of thing. (You will be thrilled to learn I saw and heard Barack Obama speak at the beginning of one of CC's big community efforts, just a few days after he was sworn in as Senator. He was dressed casually, slacks and a turtleneck, and didn't speak long -- basically "Thank you all for coming out here on a cold winter morning" -- but the charisma came off him in waves).

Shoveling the driveways / allwyways of elderly neighbors. Mowed the lawn of the next door neighbor at the time I moved in, after her husband abandoned her and their two young kids.

There probably have been others that aren't coming to mind. You can go as small potatoes as helping with the dishes at family gatherings. I would rather help out than sit back and let George do it.

Many have done far more than this. In fact I feel I should be doing more. But your implications are incorrect.

Yes, my life is fairly screwed up now. That doesn't mean I have never done anything or never will again.
