Even if that's a risk in some working environments, seems to me that it would be just as likely to backfire if they shared locations for the months of Grover's membership. it's also remarkable to maintain a double-deception for so long without any crossover. And surely there are easier/more dramatic opportunities for somebody so close if they want to be malicious.

I agree that Occam's Razor applies. The problem now is that the "Profumo would say that" principle is in full effect and we can't expect Michel to be moved at all unless we can come up with a realistic explanation. I'm as committed to fairness as the next person but I'd want a realistic proposition before approaching Michel to contradict his 15 pages of evidence.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
