Clint Eastwood said something interesting in an interview about the movie cliche of the good guy always waiting to be shot at before shooting back. He said if it was me I would want to get off the first shot if that was what it was coming down to. "Why would I want to let someone shoot at me?"

I had no interest in the Lord of the Rings series, either. Just the character names alone were enough to turn me off.

Amazing work done by Peter Jackson, but I don't like the genre of a single all powerful evil overlord and the good guys waiting until it's almost too late before trying to rally everyone to fight against them. Reminds me of the stupid Popeye cartoons where in every one he'd get the crap beat out of him and THEN eat the spinach. Just eat the stuff in the beginning and be done with it. How dumb do you have to be to get beat like that before you learn.
