ОК, even if we don't want to bind it to a field, it can be bound to a form property. Binding to variables sounds like 2.6 technique, which then means that the variables need to be in scope when the form instantiates - with the event model in place, they either need to be public, or the form needs to be modal. Both ways it's just bad in today's terms.
