I broke one my my cardinal rules about sports fandom by comparing great players. It's just plain silly to compare players like Bird, Magic, Michael, Wilt, Russell, Walton, Shaq, Oscar. They were all great and we should leave it at that. To say any of them were "only" #2 is diminishing.

Once I encountered Oscar, briefly. I was working at a client site in Cincinnati and this guy walked right past me. I sort of recognized him but not in a suit. I walked over to the receptionist's desk and said, "Millie, who was was that who just went into the conference room?" She said, "Oh, that's Oscar Robinson, he used to play with Mr.Twyman." That would be Jack Twyman, who was the CEO and a serious businessman after being a hall of famer in the NBA's early days. (Huge ring). I said "Millie, it's Oscar Robertson and he didn't play with anyone, they played with him." He owned some supermarkets in Cincinnati who got their deliveries from my client.

On the way out to lunch I saw Oscar's car was still parked in front. It was a BMW 7 series, forest green, with the perfect vanity plate: O. He set some records for scoring, assists, and rebounds that still stand.
