>This week I've been reminded why Windows is so popular. I installed the latest Centos iso on a new Sandybridge board and it didn't recognize the SATA driver or the Realtek network. I ended up inserting one of those antique network cards just so I could download newer packages, and then struggling to eliminate the wretched card from the config. Even the very latest packages had wonky SATA, forcing me to run a lovely new SATA3 2TB drive in IDE mode. Whereas Windows flew onto the same board.

>That reminded me of one of the reasons why so many people use Windows today: because it just goes. Most of the time. ;-) And because it has the apps. and because it's become a habit. IMHO the habit is a big part of it and the Android habit is very bad news for MS and Apple, no matter what. Once you've sourced and customized the apps you want and so have your friends, it takes a lot to shift you.
Quite true. I heard a story one time about someone calling windows a 'pile of device drivers'. ya well being able to use devices is always nice..haha
