I also remember that quote. And then he said "And I don't do bugs either!"

>I remeber you saying in one of your terrific sessons:

>>>That is so cool seeing you get three stars for posting a solution ;-)
>>>
>>>There is something I have always wanted to ask you. Did you really write GenScrnX in one night or is that an urban legend? Because if you did I should just pack up the PC and become a short order cook or something ;-)
>>
>>I came up with the idea of GenScrnX in one night, and the next day I created a working prototype. But it was months of development for the driver support, all the additional directives, working with SCX/PJX files in any folder, etc. The inspiration went like this. I saw a demo of the beta of dBASE for Windows by Adam Green showing some object-oriented features like creating a spinner with a textbox and buttons combined into one control.
>>
>>Then I went to the LAFox.org meeting soon after and saw John Miller show his ProGen product which modified GenScrn.prg in about 200 places, and he had to update GenScrn.prg every time FoxPro 2.x was patched, which was about monthly. Then in the Denny's parking lot after the user group meeting talking to my friend David Salson combined with my drive home after midnight, I came up with the idea of modifing the .scx file in temp file, passing it to an unmodified GenScrn.prg, then modifying the SPR output file after - all by creating a wrapper program that _genscrn pointed to, with my GenScrnX.prg program calling GenScrn.prg. While I proved the prototype the next day, it was nowhere near ready for distribution.
>>
>>Steve Black became the primary GenScrnX beta tester, using it in his INTL product, and FoxFire used it in their report writer product. Steve Black and I exchanged email on it almost daily via CompuServe email for about a year, and he wrote the help file for GenScrnX. During that entire year, he and I never talked on the phone, just email only, and finally met in person in spring 1994 at a VFP DevCon in Palm Springs. Ironically, I talked to Steve via video call on Skype just a few days ago, now over 18 years since GenScrnX started. I was 27 then, and I'll be 45 next week. The first person outside of JPL (where I created GenScrnX) that I talked to about GenScrnX was Alan Griver. Ironically, I had dinner with him twice last week, he lives around the corner from me.
>>
>>Bill Anderson (president of LAFox.org) who worked at JPL next to me at the time, who brought me out there originally, created that 3Dbox.prg program which I created the 3D Driver for GenScrnX, he and I worked on all that 3D stuff together which was the 'killer' app for GenScrnX, which was the main reason there was over 100,000 downloads from CompuServe. Then ironically, I see both Bill Anderson and David Salson in 11 days in L.A. where I speak at the L.A. Fox/Servoy user group there, http://lafox.org. It's a bit funny how I'll be directly communicating with so many people this month who were connected to GenScrnX, and your question here made me think of it all.
>>
>>OK, and now I'll disclose a fact that may surprise you just to ensure you don't pack up and become a cook... In my entire life, I've created less than 20 SQL SELECT statements in VFP that are more complex than something simple like SELECT * FROM Customer WHERE City=cCity. I always used the Xbase language for data queries and manipulation, not SQL, since I mostly created tools in VFP like the Class Browser, much of the FFC, etc. Everyone on the UT knows SQL better than I do. :)
