Hi Michael,
For starters make sure you install MM running as Admin. Also always run Visual Studio 2010 as Admin. Since you do not have the templates you can run a Visual Studio Command prompt and then run devenv with a switch to install the templates. I don't remember the switch, but if you google devenv you will find a listing of the switches. This has worked for me and others in the past as it causes VS to refresh its templates.
By the way, yes you can have the earlier version of MM installed with no problem along side MM 4.0.
