Western Digital makes some nice external hard drives. After losing a lot of valuable data 3 or 4 years ago I went the belt and braces route. An unattended backup program backs up my hard drive to an external HD every night. If my main computer takes it in the shorts, the data is not lost. I also subscribe to a remote backup site for $5/month in case of fire or other catastrophe. The one I use is Carbonite; there are others. The first time around convinced me there are things on my computer I don't want to lose.

PS -- I hesitate to even mention this but I believe Carbonite offers a referral bonus ;-)
