I have a client who has Windows 7 Enterprise Edition - 64bit. He is running MS Office 2010 (32bit). All our VFP9 applications run fine including be able to use COM automation to control Excel.

We also have a DDE server application. When his Excel tries to talk to our DDE server we hear Excel's request and receives the instruction correctly - we can log all that and it is OK. But when our application tries to send the data back to Excel, Excel hangs with a "Not responding" message in the Excel window caption. Then we need to kill Excel via the task manager. Our DDE application continues to run fine. All other aspects of our apps run fine.

I have set his Excel options and security options to be the same as my own Excel 2010 settings (I am using Windows 7 Professional edition - 32bit). We have this DDE app working on many platforms from Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 - home and professional versions. But I think this is the first 64bit Windows Enterprise Edition client using Office 2010 32bit combination that we have come across. I don't know if this is the problem area or not - just providing the operating environment info.

Any suggestions? Does DDE work between two 32 bit applications under 64bit Windows? Seems strange that our VFP app hears Excel fine but just cannot send the data back to it - but who knows ...
