I just downloaded a .mobi file and it works fine on the Kindle so, at least as far as I'm concerned, the difference is academic.

What version of Nook is it? I looked through all the blurb but saw no mention of 3G.
FWIW an ex-brother-in-law of mine was in charge of the initial Barnes & Noble web presence but I don't know if he is still with the company.
