>I think due to Kindle book stores are having hard times. I believe Borders went partially bankrupt and several stores were closed in our area.

Brick and mortar bookstores have been having hard times since the arrival of Amazon and other low cost internet alternatives. E-books have accelerated it.

Borders announced a few days ago that they were unable to find a buyer suitable to their shareholders and are going into liquidation. The remaining 300 or so open stores will be winding down over the coming months, and then Borders will be no more. I don't have that much sympathy for them. The threats to their business model were clear and they were unable or unwilling to respond to those threats.

In fact I have way less sympathy for Borders than for small independent bookstores. They have been in the crosshairs of one larger predator or another for years and have few weapons to fight back with. These are people who genuinely love books, love talking to readers and turning them on to writers they might not know. Some of them are hanging on by their fingertips through customer loyalty and the human touch. I wish them well. Borders, nah, they were always just a business, and a badly run one.
