>>Speaking about fatty foods; I see no problem with them. It is the quantity of the food that makes American kids (and adults) fat. People should learn to control their portions. In Europe (at least in France and Spain) foods are very rich in fat and they taste good. But the portions are small or people choose to have smaller portions.

I practically don't eat cheese so I can't really comment on good or bad, fat or lean.

>>It is the same with alcohol. Like you (I think I read you said that) I allowed and offered my daughters wine at dinner since they were about 15 yo. We drink wine at dinner almost every night. But almost never any of us (the wife, kids, or me) would have more than a small glass. So I see no danger to my kids with that. The same goes for food.

>Speaking of fat - we were taught that pork fat is bad for you because it contains saturated fats (but wikipedia article doesn't even list pork fat)... and yet margarine was advertised as healthier while it's mostly produced by hydrogenization of vegetable oils - which creates saturated (and some trans) fats. Go figure.

The same goes for pork; I don't eat pork at all.

And I think in general we agree that fat in itself is not a problem. It is quantity of food that harms kids and adults.
But the bottom line of what I wanted to say (and hopefully some agree) is I don't want the government to control what I or my kids should or should not eat (as long as it is legal).
