>We went to the Phillies game last night, and I saw something I don't think I've ever seen before. Jimmy Rollins had 5 plate appearances and wound up on first base every time, but each it was something different:

>1) safe on an error
>2) fielder's choice
>3) single
>4) safe on a dropped third strike
>5) walk

That Rollins, he's a slippery one ;-) He is not having a stellar year at the plate but is one of those guys who contributes in the proverbial ways that don't show up in the box score. He is a terrific fielder and I suspect a strong influence in the clubhouse. If you're a new guy on the team, I'm sure you want his approval.
One of my favorite things in baseball is a double play turned by the professionals. Ground ball to the shortstop. He scoops it up and throws to second as fast as a three card monte hustler, the ball in his glove for a nanosecond, The secondbaseman takes the relay, often having to evade a sliding baserunner, and whips it to first just as quickly. Yer out, the umpire signals. Fast-twitch fiber that finely honed is a pleasure to behold. And it doesn't last forever. See Derek Jeter.
My second favorite play in baseball is a triple. It's much rarer and more adrenaline inducing than a home run.
OK, a suicide squeeze is also interesting ;-) It's a beautiful game for the observant.
