I enjoyed reading your reply and agree!
There are other reasons that are effecting the mid accounting market. OpenSource and free accounting packages is also a major one. Companies like xTuple, openERP, TryTon, accountz (yes I know I'm missing others) all offer good packages for the time it takes to download. You'd be surprised to see all the features they offer for free. Of course their intent is to upgrade you into a needed feature for a price or offer support. And for those companies I think it is working.
Of course is not completely true that companies are not buying accounting packages because they are being forced too. I.e. I have a client that married AccountMate while on XP. The version of AccountMate is so old now that they can not upgrade the computers to windows 7. But as computers break it is getting harder and harder to find XP. Soon they will have to replace the system with a new accounting package because XP will be gone.
