FWIW we too have re-written a VFP app for the browser, using jQuery for the front end. So far it's device- and browser- agnostic. The backend is LAMP. The php is ridiculously easy to follow. Next step is to try to compile it using Hiphop or one of the other php compilers. Our expectation is that with jquery successfully abstracting platform/browser we are less concerned about what tomfoolery the vendors will come up with next. We're also about to donate $ for some of the stuff we're using to help grease the wheels that keep this stuff working to enormous benefit, even if you're a MS shop.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
