I am enjoying my new gig but one thing, probably trivial, is running against the grain, and I am wondering what others think and have experienced.

There seems to be a cultural dislike of email in this company. I am involved in an issue currently which has evolved from a seemingly simple user issue to a change in company policy. As has been my habit for a long time -- "Get it right, in writing" -- I put it down in writing and copied all the key players. Here there is in at least some circles an aversion to email. It almost reminds me of Paulie in "Goodfellas," the mobster played by Paul Sorvino who runs out to a phone booth -- sometimes with an underling holding an umbrella over his head -- to take calls. Nothing on the record. The general view here is you can't get all the info and react on your feet, plus keep it simple, in email like you can F2F. Which may in fact be valid. Or maybe it is just a preference for undocumented statements that can come down to personal memories.

The question in the thread title should not be taken literally. I do not expect the environment to adjust to me. I will do things F2F. It just remains a curiosity to me. Have I not kept up with changed customs or are these just local rules?
