>True. They certainly know how to serve up the kool-aid. They indoctrinated kids in school by handing out hardware, software, and major marketing hype and kept it up from there.
And Microsoft didn't? And then claimed that as a charity donation, calculated at list price (as if anyone ever buys anything at list price). And guess how many schools actually had to buy computers and... which OS did it run?
To claim that Apple's dominance comes from turning kids janissary is plain out of proportion. Actually, in the years when Apple was seriously doing that, it got the fame to be the artists' machine, something you'd use for graphics or to set a book, not as much if you wanted to do some real work.
I'd guess the exposure to Windows vs exposure to Macs was at least 10 to 1. And I don't think Macs are much better, nor that the Apple is less of a rogue company than Microsoft. They just know their marketing hype better. Windows, simply said, sucks, and Mac seems to have this image of being cool. Haven't tried it for more than 5 minutes at a time, so I can't say, but it's not my perception that counts. It's the Joe Q.
