>The road to town from here is about 3 miles - some of it single lane but in many stretches wide enough for two vehicles. Locals sail past each other at 40 with a cheerful wave (or gumpy nod). Townies have, expecially if you are following them, a disconcerting habit of coming to a stop in the middle of the road as soon as they spy another vehicle coming towards them. And don't get me started on their ability to reverse ! It's usually a safe bet that it will be quicker for me to reverse a vehicle and trailer 100yds rather then wait for them to bounce off alternate hedgerows about five times in 20yds.

I'm repeatedly surprised how many people have no spatial clue. They don't understand the geometry of their wheels, specially when applied to reverse, and have trouble at planning their exit from wherever they parked. Actually, I think that's because they didn't have enough geometry in their education, and never got into that line of thinking. So when they do it, they don't (know how to) think at all, they just nudge their vehicles back and forth. Getting stuck in a corner is what they're good at :). Reversing out of a tight spot, not as much.
