You're welcome. This is one of the reasons why I prefer to have two machines running at the same time. One for the real programming, the other for trying out things from the command window, and similar things.

>Thanks! Now I'm convinced that this is exactly what has been happening. 'does a create rather than a modify' describes what happened exactly.

>Most of the time I have two instances of VFP open. I modify code in one instance and use the other to look at data/results. But, I am not very systematic, I don't consistently do it that way, and I'm sure that from time to time I execute modify class from one instance when either a) the application is running in the other instance or b) the class is still open in the editor in the other instance, or, in memory but not open in the editor?????

>>Yes, apparently, according to a private email discussion I follow. I'll copy one comment from Doug Hennig earlier today:
>>I’m sure it can happen with forms too, as I believe it’s a VFP bug: if the second VFP session can’t open the form/class because it’s sort of locked by the first session (not completely locked, as it would be if it was still open in the editor), it acts like you’ve just done a CREATE rather than MODIFY.

>>>I do. Not necessarily systematically, or consistently. And not sure whether that was the case when the corruption occurred, but, in the back of my mind I had a vague idea that this might be a factor.
>>>
>>>Why do you ask? Is this a known problem?
