This could be more of a design issue than a printer issue. Can't really tell from the info you provide. How are the data accessed to print the invoices? Do you have appropriate indexes on fields needed to print the invoices? Are relationships between tables properly defined?

Can you go to some other software and still get the printer to print 17ppm?
