Title:
Best Install Choice Is...?
I've read Doug Hennig's article, as well as various UT threads, about installing and updating under Vista & Win 7, and I've also looked at some of the posted appstarter/appupdater routines, but I am still unsure about the best course to take for my particular situation:
-- Single-user desktop app
-- No ActiveXs or DLLs to install
-- Writeable app folder and three subfolders for the data
-- Run under Win 2000 or later
-- Users may frequently be relatively unsophisticated
-- No hand-holding available
-- Install app with minimal user intervention
-- Update app from the Web with minimal user intervention
-- Vast majority of users will not care if a particular install
location is dictated to them
-- Security not really a concern
Should I just create the app folder (and its subfolders) under \users\public in Vista & Win 7
and under the root directory for prior Win versions? What are the most intelligent
choices here?
Any suggestions welcome,
-m.
